Closer 2 Home (A play on words, being the 2nd album released by Tony and Heather as Christian artists), combines Tony and Heather’s love for the classic southern gospel sound in addition to honoring their bluegrass roots. A little spice is added to the mix as well with a couple of tracks nudging Tony and Heather in a more modern direction.
“Tony and Heather Mabe Ministries exists to reach everyone,” says producer and bassist Rob Strupe, “If we can start from a core of classic and traditional Christian music, then reach out from there into more modern genres, we feel that we can actually minister to a larger number of people.”
This philosophy is reflected in their performance history. Over the past year, Tony and Heather have ministered in many different settings from large, modern venues to small country churches, homes, and road-side stages. They have worshiped in Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, and many other churches. The people Tony and Heather minister to are equally diverse spanning all different races and nationalities. At a concert near Mt. Airy one gentleman remarked that he came all the way from Switzerland for Merlefest. When he found out Tony and Heather were playing nearby he left the internationally acclaimed event and traveled to the small North Carolina community to hear Tony and Heather. The Youtube fan was thrilled to finally get to see Tony and Heather in person!

In 2011 Tony and Heather began answering the call of God on their lives to use their musical talents for His glory and to minister encouragement to Christians everywhere (Click here to see their story). Soon after teaming up with bassist and producer Robert Strupe they began filling dates with churches and other venues as fast as they could. In February they released their first, full-length CD entitled “Jesus Folk” which presented Tony and Heather’s interpretation of some great southern gospel classics and contemporary Christian songs.
Closer 2 Home also features 3 new originals penned by Heather. These worshipful additions to the group’s set list will be sure to minister to you heart and encourage you to get into His presence! “Rob sent me a copy after the masters were finished and I can’t stop listening to it!” says Heather, “It turned out great!”
Two tracks, How Sweet It Is and Your Redemption Draweth Nigh feature Nashville veteran Mark Helms on drums. Mark appears on Closer 2 Home courtesy of Mercy Hill Media, a Christian Artist Cooperative.
